Melt butter and olive oil In a medium sized saucepan over med heat.
Add diced onion and saute until softened and fragrant (about 2 minutes)
Add spices and stir for another minute to help develop the spices for exceptional flavor.
Stir in sweetener, tomato paste, tomato sauce and apple cider vinegar. Cover and cook over low to medium heat until sauce is bubbly and fragrant. About 2 minutes.
Use immediately, or pour into glass jar and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Makes a little over 12 ounces or about 12 servings.
Recipe Notes
A few things of note.
I know, pumpkin pie spice is a bit unusual, but trust me. This spice has the cloves, allspice, etc. you would get in ketchup and gives your sauce an extra layer of flavor.
Use more red pepper flakes if you like your bbq sauce on the spicy side.
Trader Joes South African Smoke Seasoning blend is optional, but as I said before… this stuff is amazing!
As always with keto cooking, feel free to use your sweetener of choice, though the golden is my favorite for this recipe.
