5 keto snack hacks to help you prepare for your next airplane flight and keep you in fat burning mode.
5 Keto Snack Hacks to Stop Hunger
Traveling while doing keto can be a challenge if you’re not prepared. But there are 5 keto snack hacks that keep you hunger free and fat burning no matter how you decide to travel.
Here are 5 ideas that work.
#1 – Purchase Snacks Ahead of Time
Don’t wait til the last minute to decide what snacks to bring. Amazon is your friend here for a quick way to gather snacks that are non-refrigerated. The great thing about amazon is they deliver and the selection is pretty amazing for keto.
#2 – Do your research for possible layovers and flight delays
No matter how careful we plan our airplane travel these days you’ll find that most flights have a layover. This can be tricky on a keto diet. So my #2 keto snack hack is do your research and check out the restaurant fare at the airport where your layover is at.
Fortunately, most of the research has been done for you by other enthusiastic keto’ers. The easiest way to find the best place to eat is by doing a google search of airport restaurants where you’ll be at. From there you can look for keto friendly options.
These are great options when dining out:
bunless burgers
low carb salads
lettuce wrapped sandwiches
egg based breakfasts
low carb burrito bowls
carnitas/fajitas
#3 – Accept the fact that there are not a lot of low carb options being served on board and plan accordingly.
Unfortunately, airlines have not yet caught up with the low carb phenomena and choices are extremely limited. You can try to work around what is being served but chances are they are laden with carbs no matter what the choices. So, be aware.
If you decide to eat the airline fare, choose the meat item and scrape off the sauce as best you can. The side salad may come with a low carb dressing but don’t roll the dice. Individually packaged dressings are great to carry with you on the flight just in case there is not a good choice available. In addition, many airlines offer a cheese, nut and fruit platter which makes a good choice. Be sure to skip the fruit if it’s high carb or eat sparingly.
#4 – Coffee or Keto Beverage can help keep hunger in check
Coffee with heavy cream is a great way to boost energy and keep those hunger cravings at bay. Most flights do have cream you can add to your coffee, but it’s usually half and half and comes with a few carbs. In a pinch, it’ll do. In my opinion the half and half tastes much better than the dried keto creamer options out there. So, I skip the powdered keto creamers.
Another idea is to bring an instant keto coffee on the flight along with you. Hot water for tea is always available so making a cup of coffee is pretty simple. I like the Rapid Fire Ketogenic High Performance Instant Coffee Mix. It’s packaging is portable and tastes great too.
If intermittent fasting is already a part of your keto regiment, consider doing fasting on the airplane travel portion of your trip. It’s a great way to start your trip out right and put your body into ultimate fat burning mode.
